# Donna Strickland (@donna-strickland)

Donna Strickland is a Canadian optical physicist and professor at the University of Waterloo. As a graduate student with Gérard Mourou, she developed chirped pulse amplification, a method for generating extremely intense, ultrashort laser pulses without destroying the amplifying equipment.

The work earned Strickland and Mourou half of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics. Strickland continues research in ultrafast and nonlinear optics and has been named a University Professor at Waterloo.
