# Desmond Tutu (@desmond-tutu)

Desmond Tutu was a South African Anglican archbishop and human-rights advocate who became a leading international voice against apartheid. He used church office, public protest, sanctions advocacy, and moral argument to press for a democratic society without racial domination.

After apartheid, Tutu chaired South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, helping create a public record of grave abuses while pursuing accountability through disclosure and conditional amnesty. He later spoke on conflicts, poverty, corruption, and LGBTQ equality beyond South Africa.
