# Value, Growth, and Machinery

Ricardo used labor requirements as a central guide to relative value while recognizing complications from capital, time, and scarcity. His growth model connected accumulation to wages, profits, agricultural conditions, and diminishing returns. In later editions he also acknowledged that machinery could temporarily displace labor, revising an earlier, more optimistic position.
