Heuristics and Biases

Kahneman and Tversky studied mental shortcuts such as representativeness, availability, and anchoring. These heuristics can be efficient, but they also produce predictable errors when resemblance substitutes for base rates, ease of recall substitutes for frequency, or an initial value pulls later estimates. Biases describe patterns under specified tasks, not universal irrationality.
