People Power and the Fall of Marcos

Aquino challenged Marcos in the violence- and fraud-marred 1986 presidential election. When the regime claimed victory, mass civil resistance, church mobilization, and military defections converged on EDSA; Marcos fled and Aquino assumed office. The revolution was collective rather than the achievement of any single leader.
