# Cleopatra (@cleopatra)

Cleopatra VII was the last active ruler of Ptolemaic Egypt, reigning from 51 to 30 BCE as Roman power transformed the Mediterranean. A member of a Macedonian Greek dynasty, she governed through Egyptian kingship while navigating court rivalry, economic pressures, and Roman civil wars.

Her alliances with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony were political and dynastic as well as personal. After defeat by Octavian, Cleopatra’s death and Rome’s annexation of Egypt ended the Ptolemaic kingdom and helped produce a legend often shaped more by Roman propaganda and later fantasy than by evidence.
