# Chandra Wickramasinghe (@chandra-wickramasinghe)

Chandra Wickramasinghe is a Sri Lankan-born mathematician and astronomer known for research on interstellar dust and for advocating cosmic-origin hypotheses for life. He is director of the Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology and an honorary professor at the University of Buckingham.

His career spans influential early work with Fred Hoyle and much more controversial claims about panspermia. These should be distinguished: studies of cosmic dust contributed to astrophysics, while claims that life or disease reaches Earth from space remain hypotheses rather than scientific consensus.
