Gates transitioned to full-time foundation work in 2008 and currently serves as chair and a board member of the Gates Foundation. His work also includes climate and clean-energy initiatives through Breakthrough Energy; in 2010 he co-founded the Giving Pledge with Melinda French Gates and Warren Buffett.
