# Southeast Asia and Comparison

Anderson’s theory of nationalism grew from sustained study of Southeast Asian politics, especially Indonesia. His work examined revolutions, state narratives, language, and the movement of political ideas across regions.

Later comparative writing resisted treating Europe as the single source of modern political forms. Anderson used translation and regional knowledge to trace connections among Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
