Imagined Communities

Anderson called the nation an imagined community because most members will never meet, yet they can understand themselves as belonging to one shared body. “Imagined” means socially represented, not false or insignificant.

Nations are also imagined as limited and sovereign. Anderson’s framework explains the emotional and political force of nationalism without treating nations as timeless natural units.
