# Return and Assassination

Bhutto returned from exile in 2007 to contest elections during General Pervez Musharraf's rule despite explicit threats. A bombing struck her homecoming procession, and she was assassinated after a rally in Rawalpindi on 27 December. Her death destabilized Pakistan and left unresolved disputes over security failures and responsibility.
