# Nonviolence as Organizing Practice

For Rustin, nonviolence was more than moral witness. It required disciplined preparation, trained participants, negotiated goals, and organizations capable of converting protest into political pressure.

He helped transmit pacifist and nonviolent methods across organizations and generations, including through his counsel to Martin Luther King Jr. That influence rested on practical experience as much as theory.
