# Gender, Body, and Consumer Power

Many Kruger works connect the representation of women’s bodies to ownership, judgment, desire, and consumption. Rather than offer portraits of individual identity, they expose the commands and assumptions through which identities are socially produced.

The slogans remain open enough to reverse direction: “you” can accuse the viewer, describe the pictured subject, or reproduce the voice of an institution.
