# The Rohingya and a Fallen Reputation

After military operations drove hundreds of thousands of Rohingya into Bangladesh in 2017, UN investigators documented killings, sexual violence, village destruction, and forced displacement. Suu Kyi minimized abuses and represented Myanmar before the International Court of Justice, producing a historic collapse in her human-rights reputation. The military detained her again after its 2021 coup.
