# Difference and Coalition

Lorde criticized movements that treated the experience of white, middle-class heterosexual women as universal. She argued that ignored differences of race, class, sexuality, and age weaken coalition rather than secure it.

Her essays ask readers to engage difference without converting it into hierarchy or pretending it does not exist. That approach has made her work foundational across Black feminist, queer, and critical race scholarship.
