# The Dual-Sector Model

Lewis modeled a developing economy with a low-productivity subsistence sector and an expanding modern sector. Where underemployment creates an abundant labor supply, the modern sector can recruit workers without immediately raising wages; reinvested profits then support further accumulation. The model's conclusions depend on assumptions about reinvestment, productivity, migration, and labor absorption.
