# W. Arthur Lewis (@arthur-lewis)

W. Arthur Lewis was a Saint Lucian economist, university leader, and policy adviser who helped establish development economics as a field. At Manchester he became Britain's first Black professor and developed his most influential account of labor transfer and capital accumulation. He shared the 1979 economics prize for pioneering research on development problems.
