# Prisons and Abolition

Davis helped popularize analysis of the prison-industrial complex and co-founded Critical Resistance, an organization associated with the modern prison-abolition movement. Her work asks why imprisonment is treated as the default response to social harm and inequality.

Abolition in this account is not simply prison closure. It is a constructive political project involving education, care, housing, and other institutions that reduce violence and make punitive systems less necessary.
