# Political Trial, Solidarity, and Public Memory

Davis became internationally known after being charged in connection with a 1970 courthouse attack. She spent roughly eighteen months in jail before a jury acquitted her in 1972, while a global campaign organized for her defense.

That history shaped her continuing attention to political prisoners, legal repression, and solidarity. It also made her image a public symbol, though her subsequent career as a teacher and writer extends far beyond the trial that first brought her mass visibility.
